Hearing aids on the NHS

For as long as most of us can remember there has been a lengthy wait for a NHS hearing assessment and the subsequent fitting of NHS analogue hearing aid, with many people waiting many months to complete the process.
The more recent introduction of digital hearing aids has greatly improved the performance of modern hearing aids. However this has also lead to an increase in demand from new users and those looking to upgrade their current analogue hearing aids. This increased demand has impacted service levels and many NHS waiting lists have increased as a result.
It is a Government commitment to ensure assessments for hearing aids are made within a six weeks. Unfortunately this target only relates to the first stage of the process and makes no difference if patients have to endure months on a waiting list before prescribed hearing aid is actually fitted. Lengthy delays between assessment and fitting can also lead to the need for a re-assessment at the time of fitting.
The RNID estimates that around five hundred thousand people are currently waiting to have digital hearing aids fitted by the NHS.

The RNID also said:

"We remain seriously concerned about the capacity of the NHS to meet the Government’s aim of ensuring that no-one waits more than 18 weeks for a hearing aid fitting by the end of 2008."

There main area of concern is that the push to meet these new targets may result in a fall in the quality of the service offered.

As a result many people in the UK choose to opt out of the NHS service and buy their digital hearing aid directly from a retailer who can offer instant services.

Free Money Making Opportunities on the Web

In auctions, the seller can specify what's known as a reserve price for an item. If the winning bid for that item is less than the reserve price, the seller can opt not to complete the transaction. Often, this technique is used by sellers who have a detailed understanding of how much the item would be worth if sold elsewhere, or who for whatever reason need to make a certain amount of money from the auction for free money making opportunities on the web. Generally, such sellers can be broken up into two categories: sellers who are simply looking to recoup a certain amount of the item's purchase cost and sellers who rely primarily on auction sales for their livelihood.

The first case often includes businesses that re-sell used items at a depreciated value. If the company uses good accounting practices, this value will be readily available. Otherwise, it will have to estimate the value by consulting with experts (some of whom it may already have on its staff) or comparing prices on similar items for free money making opportunities on the web. Typically, such sales aren't essential to the continuing health of the organization, so accepting a price slightly below the reserve value would likely not result in major harm. In low-priority situations such as this, a business must ask itself whether a reserve is really necessary for free money making opportunities on the web. Most auction venues will charge an additional fee to place a reserve on an item, which, depending on the expected sale price of the item, might be enough to cast the possibility of a satisfactory profit into doubt.

In the second case, though, reserve prices can reasonably be considered on the order of regular store prices: any offer below them will not result in a sale. As such, they need to be carefully calculated for free money making opportunities on the web. Too high, and auctions may result in too few sales and a bad reputation. Too low, and auctions may not generate enough profit to maintain the business. The desired profit margin will vary by business and by item, of course, and needs to be realistic for the market for free money making opportunities on the web. Equally, sellers should be aware of the relevant research, such as studies that indicate that using reserve pricing can have a feast-or-famine effect on profit depending on the estimated value of the goods being sold.* This research, while not conclusive, indicates that, even if relatively expensive goods benefit from reserves, relatively inexpensive ones can actually lose value if a reserve is employed. Ultimately, a business should remember that its bottom line is profit: even if all the theories say that using a reserve will help, if reserve-priced goods consistently under perform, the right answer is to abandon them, and vice versa.

Online reputation

After you have brought people to your page to look at the sports memorabilia you are trying to sell, it is important to entice them to bid. One of the most important factors is by creating and maintaining a positive online reputation. Buyers will be less likely to bid on your merchandise if the feedback left about you is not good. But overall, creating a positive response about your online auction business is not difficult to do and is very similar to the same good business practices people practice in regular storefronts. Along with being honest and descriptive about what you are selling online, it is important to answer all questions posed to you by potential bidders and be forthright about your product. When it comes to shipping the item, pack it appropriately in the correct box and send it out just as you described on your site or if you have made alternative arrangements with the winning bidder.

Rainwear Features

When choosing rainwear, you will be faced with many choices. As with all other types of clothing, rainwear is available with a variety of features. The ones you choose will depend on your exact needs and preferences. Below are some of the most common features found in rainwear that may help you when making your buying decision.

One of the most important features of any raincoat or jacket is a hood. There are two basic types of hoods: integral, those that are attached, and those that are detachable and may be rolled up or folded away when not in use.

Integral hoods are permanently attached and offer the best resistance again leaks. Detachable hoods may be more convenient but are not necessarily conducive to leakage especially in particularly nasty and wet weather conditions.

The most functional hoods feature elastic cords with toggles that can be adjusted around your face for better comfort and protection from the wind and rain. Some hoods also have stiffened visors or brims that can be shaped to fit your head and the area around your face. This also helps with visibility. Tabs on the back of such a hood can be used to adjust both fit and visibility.

Chin guards are another feature of rainwear that may not come immediately to mind. These are usually fleece or knit synthetic fabric linings on the inside of the collar that protect your face from zipper abrasion and the wetness or frost that often builds up when you are outside in the rain or snow for a long period of time. This commonly occurs when it is so cold outside your breath freezes.

Pockets are another important feature of rainwear. They allow you to store essential items and, therefore, can decrease the amount of other items such as bags or backpacks you will need to take with you, It is important to keep in mind that storing items in pockets does weigh down your outer shell, therefore, can potentially allow more leakage to occur. If you only need to carry a small number of items, however, this should not be a problem. If this is the case, you might consider searching for a raincoat or jacket that is equipped with several pockets. This will allow you to distribute the weight more evenly which can the help to minimize the chance for leaks to occur.

Are Digital Hearing Aids Better Than Analogue Hearing Aids?

How do they differ?

Analogue hearing aids use a amplifier to raise all sounds by a certain amount, which can be adjusted by a simple volume control. The problem with this is that hearing loss is rarely equal over the range of pitches and by raising the volume to hear speech, we will be raising the level of background noise as well. Difficult! In fact many of us have been put off wearing a hearing device for just that reason.

The latest digital hearing instruments from manufacturers like Phonak, Oticon and Resound can be set not to enhance background noise, and to just concentrate on hearing speech, which is what hearing aids are designed to do. This means that digital hearing aids are much better for more difficult types of hearing loss, and for hearing in background noise.

The newest hearing instruments are also great at suppressing those unwanted sounds, incorporating features such as wind suppression and feedback cancellation. These two features can alone substantially improve ones listening experience.

Really for anyone wearing an analogue hearing aid they should try and listen to the benefits of these latest devices because the benefits really are incredible and must be experienced. Its sometimes considered a cliche to hear customers who are wearing the latest devices, comment that "it really has changed my life", or "i can hear birdsong again". But its really anything but a cliche and it is only when we are able to experience these amazing new advances in hearing health that we can trully see at the benefits they deliver.

If you've got an analogue hearing device, or even if you just think you've got a hearing loss, go and get a free hearing test from a local hearing audiologist and ask for a demonstration of digital hearing aids. It really is as simple as that, and anyone who is concerned about their hearing or currently wearing the older analogue style should go and have a look for themselves.

Chiropractor For Back Pain

Back pain is something most of us know all too well, lower back, upper back neck and head pain is a wide spread condition in almost every country and across all maturity ages. When people are faced with continues back pain that doctors tell them can not be helped through the use of ordinary medicine, they start looking for a chiropractor to ease their pain.

A chiropractor is not some miracle worker, nor are the chiropractors a part of the alternative medicine scene, far from it, these are highly trained professionals that know everything starts with the spine, and any type of back injury is somehow connected to the spine. Chiropractors use their extensive knowledge of the spine and back to find the source of the problem that is causing the patient back pain.

The understanding of how the back muscles and spine makes the chiropractor the most experienced professionals in this area, particularly when it seems that all hope is gone a chiropractor can reason out what is going on in your back, the muscle effort and the stress that is places on each part of the back can be analyzed and understood, and most importantly – you back pain cause can be solved, and the pain gone.

Chiropractors minimize the back pain and get your spine in balance, and once they have your spine in balance, the main work is to keep you at a controlled state in which you do not suffer from this pain any longer. This maintenance work can be performed by the implication of different and various methods.

In some cases patients are extremely stressed, causing their body to be highly tense and in a condition that is very difficult to treat, although these are definitely not the majority of the back pain population patients, it has been known that some rare cases encounter sever problems.

In these kind of cases it may be better to look for a chiropractor doctor to have them treat the condition. Sometimes the diet we eat can contribute to cramps in the muscles or problems with the joints, the body has a way of understanding that it should avoid using these muscles and compensate for their use. This muscle compensation may result in more back pain, and sometimes this can be solved by a visit to a chiropractor doctor.

This kind of doctor uses a more alternative approach to physical problems, learning from the Chinese and acupuncture techniques, they will use their hands gently to perform the best task to fix the ailment. The Chinese techniques have been used for centuries, and still are very popular today in many different parts of the world, and the Chinese are closely related in their acupuncture and acupressure techniques.

Some chiropractor doctors combine more than one technique or method to solve back pain and back problems, this is very important for the patient that does not have to go to a few different experts to treat the same problem, and knowing that you are in the hands of a chiropractor doctor is reassuring enough for you to let them do the work and solve your back pain.

Career Advice - 3 Ways to Create a Portfolio Career

In this article, a portfolio career is defined as earning income or having work from more than one industry or function at the same time. There are two ways to approach it - have more than one job or business, or find a way to blend your interests.

One - Is there a natural or obvious match between your interests?

For example, perhaps you love photography, writing, and scrapbooking. You could have a one business as a photographer, selling everything from fine art photos, to stock photos, to portraits. A second business as a freelance writer. And yet a third business with a scrapbook store, or teaching classes and selling materials.

Or, start a business as an expert in creating memory books with well-written stories and fantastic photographs. You could create the products for people on commission, or you could teach others to do it. Why not both?

Two - What do you do if there is not a match between your interests?

Maybe you want to work in the medical field and build sailboats. Then where do you start? If you are a practical person, get some sort of medical job that works for you that pays the bills. You can get schooled in something like phlebotomy, for example, in six months. Get an LPN in a year. Then, start exploring how to build sailboats. But wait, might there be a way to combine these interests after all? Those large windjammer type cruise lines, do they need medical personnel who also know how to rig a sail? Why not look into it?

Three - Okay, really, there just is not a match between your interests.

The best advice here is to start things one at a time.

Let me give myself as an example. I love to travel, so I got a job at an airline (which I am thankful I still have!). But it took nearly two years of work before I could control my schedule enough to add a second interest. Last year, I became an independent contractor for a direct sales company. This year I have trained so that I can offer my services as a coach to help other people like me find their best career path. Each of these things brings me a combination of benefits, income, and happiness.

In the end, that is what this type of portfolio career is all about - not being tied to one thing all the time. It's like catnip for the generalist.
